After getting married, my wife Hailey and I purchased a few acres of land and began dreaming about adding cattle. We weren’t interested in them for production purposes — we simply wanted them as “land ornaments” to enjoy. Hailey discovered the Brushwood Mini Highlands website and showed me the calves they had available. I reached out to Print several times, and from the very beginning he treated me like a close friend. After many calls and texts, we decided to purchase one calf. On that same day, Print went out to check the herd and called to tell me he had found another calf that would make the perfect companion. His genuine care and thoughtful suggestion led us to bring home not just one, but a pair of beautiful Mini Highlands.

After my wife Hailey and I decided to bring home Mini Highlands, we called Brushwood to confirm we wanted two calves. We named them Merle (white) and Hank (brown), and planned to drive up from Oklahoma to collect them. On the way, Brushwood kindly warned us about a snowstorm that might slow us down. What we didn’t realize was that the storm had shifted into a full blizzard, right along our route.

When we finally arrived, Brushwood’s ranch had lost power, and they insisted we not risk driving home in such dangerous conditions. Though we had never met before, they treated us like family — offering us a room in their home or to arrange a hotel nearby. We stayed at the hotel, and the next day, as we drove back through the snow, Brushwood checked in with us until we safely reached Kansas.

About a year later, Merle broke off a horn. I immediately called Brushwood, and once again they guided me through the situation with patience and care. For nearly two weeks afterward, they continued to call and text, making sure Merle was healing well.

Brushwood, thank you for the two bulls you entrusted to us, and for showing such genuine kindness and joy to strangers you had never met. Your generosity touched Hailey and me deeply, and it still serves as a reminder of how to treat others. These calves have brought us countless memories, not only for us but for our extended family and friends as well.
